Things to do in Cefalú in one day

Always wanted to visit Cefalú but still don’t know the most suggestive places and you have only one day avaible? Cefalú is a beautiful seaside town 70 km from Palermo, full of history and culture, little but with a huge heart.

Cefalú offers treasures like the Duomo, an impressive cathedral composed by two enormous towers equipped of loopholes, mullioned and double windows… in short, a real fortress!

Another famous landmark is the Diana’s temple: dating to the XI B.C, it is formed by an old tank, incorporated within the temple. The presence of this construction maybe can be related to pagan worship of waters.

You can’t miss the medieval wash-house, a series of tanks made of stones in which women used to wash their clothes in the waters of Cefalino, a small river still existing within the town. In just few steps from here you can reach ‘corso Ruggero’, the main street in which you can find the most important noble palace of the city, the Ostero Magno, which belonged to the Ventimiglia’s family and eventually passed into the hands of king Ruggero the second.

As good and proud Sicilians, the inhabitants of Cefalú know how to stole the tourists’ hearts thanks to the special and delicious typical food. Cefalú is the home of the fresh seafood: most of the restaurants will be happy to offer dishes with the fish of the day prepared in the “old way”, with the typical tradition derived from the influence of Palermo and Messina.
